Technical Diving Courses (Tec)

Blue Island Divers of St. Thomas, USVI, is proud to present it's suite of Technical Diving Courses. We provide all pre-requisite courses too. The PADI/DSAT Enriched Air Diver, or Nitrox, course is a must for the other technical courses listed, Gas Blending, Drager Dolphin Semi-Closed Circuit Rebreather, Tec Rec (Apprentice and Deep). Read on for a full description of course content, duration and objectives.

Apprentice Tec Course

The Apprentice Tec course consists of four Practical Applications (equipment rigging and dive planning), seven Training Dives using twin manifolded tanks for the back gas, and two side-mounts for gas switching and would take no more than five days to complete. The course will qualify you to make gas switch, extended no decompression dives to 40m / 130ft using air, enriched air with up to 60% oxygen, using technical diving equipment and procedures. Apprentice Tec is a sub-course within the Tec Rec Deep Tec course.

Theory is home-study with a workbook with four Knowledge Reviews and a Final Exam. Course Costs are all inclusive.

Pre-requisites for this course are: to be certified as a PADI Open Water Diver or equivalent, be minimum of 18 years of age, be certified as PADI Enriched Air Diver or equivalent, be certified as PADI Deep Diver or Equivalent and finally, have a minimum of 50 logged dives, of which at least 10 dives were made with Nitrox, 12 dives were deeper than 18m / 60ft and at least six dives were deeper than 30m / 100ft.

PADI DSAT Tec Rec Deep Tec

The Tec Deep course consists of eight Practical Applications (equipment rigging and dive planning), twelve Training Dives using twin manifolded tanks for the back gas, and two sidemounts up to pure or 100% oxygen for decompression and would take no more than ten days to complete. The course will qualify you to make gas switch, extended no decompression dives, decompression stop dives and accelerated decompression dives using air, Nitrox and pure or 100% oxygen to 50m / 165ft, using technical diving equipment and procedures.

Theory is again home-study with a workbook with six Knowledge Reviews and a Final Exam.

Pre-requisites for the course are: to be certified as a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver or equivalent, be certified as a PADI Rescue Diver or equivalent, be a minimum of 18 years of age, be certified as a PADI Enriched Air Diver or equivalent, be certified as a PADI Deep Diver or equivalent, and have a minimum of 100 logged dives, of which at least 20 dives were made with Nitrox, 25 dives were deeper than 18m / 60ft and at least 15 dives were deeper than 30m / 100ft.

PADI DSAT Gas Blending Specialty Course

The PADI / DSAT Gas Blender Program covers Nitrox Gas Blending (various methods), Oxygen Cleaning and Oxygen Service. The theory consists of a manual with 5 knowledge reviews and a final exam. Practical application is given in blending Nitrox, Oxygen Cleaning and should take no more than 1 and 1/2 days. You will be certified to blend Nitrox for yourself, or others, upon completion.

Pre-requisites for this course are: be a PADI Enriched Air Diver or equivalent.
